The UB9-S GEL-KAYANO™ 20 sneaker is inspired by the themes of Interlaced Assemblages, Functional Utopias and Mino Ceramics. The capsule builds on the philosophy and design language of the previous partnership, bringing some new concepts to the forefront through materiality and color, honoring the heritage of ASICS' past while mapping the future of the shoe. Functional Utopia-inspired variations contrast with grid-like patterns and bold, muted colors, making direct references to nature. The glossy primary colors are contrasted by metallic textures that accentuate the double-layered mesh material. The designers also explored influences from Mino pottery (the predominant ceramic style in Japan) by examining the contemporary processes of rust-like qualities that occur in Mino glazes. This process acts as a vessel with faded colors that can stand the test of time.
